The Main Features Of A Headset We’ll be going through their main features first: Comfort Comfort is an important factor when looking for the appropriate headset. If you neglect this point, no matter how good the gadget is, you won’t be able to use it. After using a headset for a couple of hours, you might have to take it off due to discomfort. As you can imagine, this would ruin your gaming experience. Sound Quality You bought the headset for an improved sound experience. So, what good would it be if it had terrible sound quality? So, look for those that offer loud bass and crisp clarity. Also, ensure that the microphone produces quality output. Otherwise, your teammates won’t be able to hear you, affecting your gameplay. Durability Of course, you don’t want to get your hands on a new headset just for it to stop working in a week. This is why you need to keep in mind how durable it will be. You can do this by assessing what materials it is made of. If it’s plastic, you know it probably won’t last long. Appearance This is not the most important aspect to consider when looking for a new headset, but this would add to its value. You’ll wow your friends, especially if there are LED lights on the device. Compatability So, you can expect to use it on your Xbox, Nintendo Switch or even your PC. This is great if you prefer console gaming but like playing games on your PC occasionally. Things To Look For When Buying A Headset Now, let’s talk about some tips you should keep in mind when purchasing the headset. The Price If you want to save money, wait until a sale pops up to get the headphones at a discounted rate. You can expect the biggest deals on Blackfriday and Cyber Monday. Does It Suit You? Even though it might have everything you’d want in a gaming headset, there’s no point buying it if you won’t be using it much. So, get a pair that works well outside the world of gaming too, giving you the ability to use it for everyday work. Thus, you’ll be able to make the most of what you spent on it. Are They Easy To Use? Even if you get a headset with high-quality audio, it would be a shame if it were impossible to use. Hence, it’s important that the gadget is light so you have no difficulty wearing it. Also make sure its headband and microphone are fully adjustable for your head. If you consider the above points, you can ensure easy use. Conclusion All of the headsets on this list are great for the price point. The top few even rival competitors that are more expensive. First, let’s talk about the types of gaming chairs on the market: Different Types Of Gaming Chairs There are many types of gaming chairs available. Let’s discuss them below. PC Chairs As the name suggests, these are built for people who enjoy gaming on PCs. They can even act as office chairs due to their similar designs. These chairs are a lot better than their office counterparts as they are superior in design. This is because they have extra cushioning and padding, and are height adjustable, offering full-body support with the aid of lumbar rests and the ability to tilt them up to 180 degrees. Platform Gaming Chairs These look very different from their PC counterparts as they’re not built for playing games on a desk. These beasts are built for console use, and even come with special pockets where you can place your devices. The chairs don’t usually have a swivel base, which makes for a very peculiar design. If you were to make a comparison, they resemble bean bags. Hybrid Gaming Chairs This chair is a blend of platform and PC gaming chairs. They come fully equipped for the ultimate gaming experience, offering built-in tech. Of course, it is the most premium chair available and boasts a hefty price tag. The Main Features Of A Gaming Chair Let’s dive into the features any good gaming chair should have. Comfort Comfort is the most important thing to keep in mind when you’re purchasing a gaming chair. This is obvious as you are going to spend hours sitting in it, playing games. So you need to prevent soreness and bruises. To check for comfort, look at the material the chair is made of, and find out how consistent its padding is. If it has thick padding and is made of premium material such as leather, you’re in good hands. If you’re someone who is taller, this wouldn’t guarantee your comfort. You must look for a chair that offers a range of height adjustments. Durability There is no point purchasing an item if it’s not durable, and this will result in you having to replace it soon. This would be a waste of money. You might be wondering “What makes a gaming chair durable?”. Well, this is the material it is made of. If you want one that would last years, get yourself a chair with thick padding, a heavy base and one made with high-quality material. Weight Limit Each chair comes with a different weight limit. If you’re on the heavier side, this is important to keep in mind before making a purchase. Things To Look For When Buying A Gaming Chair Since we have covered the essentials, here are some details to consider when buying a gaming chair: Budget You may go wild with the assortment present. This is why you need a budget, helping you narrow down the search. With a price in mind, you can look for a gaming chair that comes with the best features for how much you’re willing to spend. Does it suit you? As mentioned, there are different types of gaming chairs, so you must know which type suits you the best. How Does It Look? You may have the most comfortable chair in the world for gaming, but what about its appearance? Always consider how the chair will blend in with your room’s décor. This is important as you’re investing in a piece of furniture after all. Conclusion To get the most bang for your buck, try to keep the above tips in mind. Hopefully, you’ll end up with a gaming chair that will serve you well. To sum up, there are numerous gaming chairs present in the market. Many boast features that are quite similar, but they differ according to the quality offered. Related Guides: How to Build a Gaming Computer
WiFi connectivity problems are well-known among Windows OS users. Since there have been so many reported problems with WiFi, we have decided to go through the most common issues and offer solutions. Despite the many improvements to wireless networking from Windows 8 to Windows 10, it seems that the problems still keep piling up with people seeking help on different tech forums. Issues with WiFi should not be neglected as they can limit your access to the Internet when you need it the most. Among the most common of them are the following: Disconnection after using Sleep Mode – The useful feature Sleep Mode is meant to save power but OS users are reporting that their WiFi connection just isn’t working when their devices wake up. The err_internet_disconnected message – Problems with WiFi are often indicated by this error message. You will learn how to deal with it if you follow our solutions below. Laptops get frequently disconnected from WiFi – Although this is mostly reported by mobile PC users, desktop users can also be affected. WiFi loses connection from time to time – Random and frequent disconnects are just a variation of the same problem we have been discussing so far. Windows 10 keeps losing WiFi connectivity – People using this particular Windows version are complaining that their WiFi keeps dropping. Although quite annoying, the issue is solvable and we will explain how. Limited WiFi access – Occasionally, users complained about warnings about Limited WiFi access. It means that while you can connect to the WiFi network, you still don’t have Internet access. WiFi users are unable to connect to a WiFi network – This one is just another overreported problem many people were trying to deal with. They were either unsuccessful at connecting to a network or weren’t able to detect it at all. WiFi loses connectivity when the user connects other devices – If your WiFi network uses a number of different devices, this sometimes leads to problems. WiFi loses connectivity when used with VPN – Although it helps a lot when online privacy is concerned, sometimes, VPN leads to problems with WiFi connectivity. The following are our proposed solutions: 1. Reinstall the Wireless Adapter This is one of the most obvious solutions to the problem. You can just reinstall the wireless adapter and let Windows automatically detect and install it when you restart the system. The steps to take here are as follows: ACTION STEPS Press Windows key + X and click on Device Manager. When the Device Manager window opens, expand Network adapters and find your WiFi adapter. Right-click the adapter and choose “Uninstall device”. Reboot the system and open Device Manager the same way we already did it. Go to the Action tab and chose to “Scan for hardware changes”. Windows will scan the system and hopefully install a new driver for your device. Reboot the PC. If that does not work for you, continue with the solutions outlined below. 2. Use the Network Troubleshooter This built-in tool automatically troubleshoots and attempts to fix some common issues with your PC. Such tools are not meant to fix every existing problem but are sometimes fast and useful instruments that save effort and time. ACTION STEPS Press the Windows logo key in the taskbar and type “Troubleshooting”. Click on “Troubleshooting” and then type in “Network Troubleshooter” in the search bar. Click on “Identify and repair network problems”. It will run diagnostics and notify you if there are problems: 3. Tweak the power options Some Windows users have reported that the power options can also mess up with WiFi connectivity. To manage them, do the following: ACTION STEPS Press Windows key + X and click on Device Manager. Expand Network adapters and find your WiFi adapter. Right-click and select Properties. Go to the “Power Management” tab and remove the check against “Allow computer to turn off this device to save power”. Confirm your change with “OK”. You can also try another solution related to the power plan settings: Press Windows key + X and click on Power Options. Click on “Additional power settings”. When the Power Options window opens, click on “Change plan settings”. Click on “Change advanced plan settings”. Expand “Power Saving Mode” under “Wireless Adapter Settings”. Click on the dropdown menu under “On battery” and “Plugged in” and choose “Maximum performance”. 4. Install the latest network card device drivers In case Windows is unable to automatically find and install a device driver for you or the driver it installs does not work properly, your best bet is to acquire it from the website of the manufacturer. You should know the exact model of your device and version of your Windows OS before proceeding. 5. Uninstall your Internet security applications If you are losing WiFi connectivity often, the culprit may be your antivirus or other security software. Such applications may cause a number of issues when interfering with Windows. If you disable or even uninstall your software for a certain period of time, you may discover that this actually saves your problem. Removing your Internet security application is the more certain of the two options. The reason for it is that our security tools leave behind registry entries and configuration files that may affect your WiFi connectivity. Although you can uninstall them the usual way by either using the built-in program uninstaller or through the Windows uninstaller, there are dedicated tools that do the job better. One such industry-leading tool is IObit Uninstaller Free. Some antivirus programs come with their own dedicated removal tools that also guarantee the complete removal of the program. Be sure to check them too. After having completed the removal procedure, be sure to check other antivirus solutions too. A number of people have reported that the security software of McAfee and Eset Security Software can cause WiFi connectivity-related problems so have it in mind if you plan to test other Internet security applications. 6. Turn off Roaming Sensitivity Some Windows users claim that they lose their WiFi connection due to a feature called Roaming Sensitivity. Because of it, WiFi devices attempt to connect to other networks with better signal. The obvious way to deal with this problem is to disable the feature. This can be done in the following way: ACTION STEPS Press together Winkey + S and type in “control panel” in the search field. Click on “Control Panel” to open it. Navigate to “Network and Internet” => “Network and Sharing Center” => ”Change adapter settings”. The Network Connection window will open, displaying the available network connections. Right-click your active network connection and choose Properties. From the Networking tab, click on Configure and navigate to the Advanced tab. Find Roaming Sensitivity and set its value to Disabled. Apply the changes and your computer will not try to switch to other WiFi networks in the future. 7. Turn off 802.11n Mode If you have an old router, it may not support 802.11n Mode – a new wireless standard offering an increase in transfer speed and range. Thus, your WiFi may frequently disconnect when the mode is active on your WiFi adapter. You may experience a number of problems if your router doesn’t support the standard. Disabling this mode is again the most obvious way to remove the problem. Follow the steps below to do it: ACTION STEPS Right-click on your Internet icon on the right side of your taskbar and choose “Open Network an Internet settings”. Click on “Change adapter options” and the Network Connections window will open. Right-click your active connection and choose Properties. Click configure and go to the Advanced tab. Find “802.11n Mode” from the menu and disable it. Preserve the changes with OK and close the windows. By having disabled this feature, you forced your WiFi adapter to use an older standard. This, in turn, should resolve your issue. Some people will recommend that you disable two other features as well – IEEE 802.1X Authentication and U-APSDsupport. 8. Switch your router’s channel Changing your router’s channel can be just the solution you need in case your WiFi disconnects frequently. Expect interference whenever several routers are operating on a single channel. In such a case, the WiFi adapter may attempt to connect to third-party networks operating on the same channel. The proposed way to fix this problem is to edit the configuration page on your router, switch to the WiFi section and change the number of the channel. For more detailed instructions on how to proceed, you can read from the manual of your router. 9. Remove Intel Pro Wireless Certain programs, as we have already learned, can cause problems with our WiFi connectivity. If you often lose your WiFi connection, you may be able to solve the problem through removing Intel Pro Wireless for Bluetooth Technology. Follow the steps outlined below to complete the procedure: ACTION STEPS Press the Windows key + I to open Settings. Click on Apps and search for “Intel Pro Wireless for Bluetooth Technology”. Choose to uninstall it and follow the on-screen instructions. 10. Try Google DNS As some users have reported, WiFi problems can result from using DNS also. According to them, the issue was resolved after trying Google DNS. Switching to Google DNS can be done with the following steps: ACTION STEPS Right-click on your Internet icon on the right side of your taskbar and choose “Open Network an Internet settings”. Click on “Change adapter options”. Find the active connection, right-click on it and choose Properties. Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then on Properties again. Click on “Use the following DNS server addresses”. Set the values for Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server as you see in the screenshot: Confirm with OK when done. This should fix your DNS-related WiFi problems. 11. Prevent your computer from accessing third party networks Some users have reported a problem with their computers trying to connect to other WiFi networks. Their PCs were simply disconnecting from their networks and attempting to switch to others. This reportedly happens due to the other network interference. Preventing your PC from doing that can be done with these steps: ACTION STEPS Start Command Prompt (Admin) by pressing together Winkey + X and click on the link. Copy the following command to your clipboard (netsh wlan add filter permission=block ssid=”Name of the WiFi network” networktype=infrastructure) and paste it in the Command Prompt window by right-clicking with the mouse (don’t bother typing it). Remember to replace the text in the quotes with the name of the network”. Confirm with the Enter key. This will stop the service. If you need to, repeat the procedure for the rest of the networks in your vicinity. Blocking all other networks should resolve your problem. This solution is very helpful if you don’t move your around computer often. Otherwise, you will need to repeat the steps for each new network you discover. 12. Stop the Thinkvantage Access Connections app According to some users, this particular app often interferes with Windows, leading to all sorts of problems. If you use a Lenovo laptop, you have a higher chance of running this application in the background. Follow the steps below to deal with the problem: ACTION STEPS Open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys. Find the Thinkvantage Access Connections among the running apps in the Name field, right-click on it and then again on “End task”. Switch to the Startup tab. Find the same app again. Right- click on it once more and choose to disable it. The next time you boot your machine, you shouldn’t start the app automatically and hopefully, this will fix the issue for you. 13. Switch to a Private connection When you set your network to public, you also risk experiencing this problem. This is due to the fact that the security settings of public networks differ. In order to deal with the issue, you should switch to a private connection. Go through these steps to make the necessary changes: ACTION STEPS Right-click on your Internet icon on the right side of your taskbar and choose “Open Network and Internet settings”. Click on “Change connection properties”. On the “Network profile” section, click on Private and close the window. 14. Turn off the WiFi Sense Feature Frequent WiFi disconnections sometimes result from a feature called WiFi Sense. The logical step here is once again to disable it on your Windows 10 PC. Follow these steps to do that: ACTION STEPS Right-click the Windows logo button in the taskbar and then on Settings. Click on “Network & Internet” Click on Wi-Fi from the left pane and then on “Manage Wi-Fi settings”. Turn off the options “Connect to networks shared by my contacts” and “Connect to suggested open hotspots”. 15. Alter Channel Width WiFi channel width might be one of the reasons why your WiFi gets disconnected. Dealing with this issue involves changing the settings of your WiFi adapter with the following steps: ACTION STEPS Press Windows key + X and click on Device Manager. Expand Network adapters and find your WiFi adapter. Right-click and select Properties. Switch to the Advanced tab and alter “WiFi Channel Width” from its current value to Auto. Preserve your changes with OK and close the windows. 16. Radio Interference Consumer electronic products in your home emit signals in the vicinity of your device, interfering with WiFi signals. Bluetooth devices, mobile phones, microwave ovens, and even garage door openers can bring down a wireless network connection when used. Whenever you notice your mobile device losing WiFi connectivity in the vicinity of such devices, it is quite likely that they are the problem. The solutions here are simple. You can place your WiFi equipment in a different spot, attempt to alter some Wi-Fi settings of your device or just switch off the interfering device. 17. Overloaded Network As many people already know, even if your Wi-Fi devices are set up in a way in which there is no signal interference, having too many devices using the same network can be problematic. The reason for this is that the bandwidth allocated to each device is limited. When certain devices lack sufficient bandwidth, sites stop loading, videos do not play, the WiFi device itself disconnects and attempts to reconnect to the network again in order to secure the needed bandwidth. There are certain tools on the Internet that allow you to benchmark your Internet speed like Novabench (available for free). If the test indicates a very slow speed, this can either be due to the speed of your ISP connection or that you are using too many devices on your WiFi network simultaneously. Try to take some of the devices offline for a certain period of time to see if that fixes the problem. You may try to flash the memory of your router, reboot it or just contact your ISP. Purchasing a new router may also be a solution. In this article, we have proposed a number of solutions that have proved helpful to people. We believe you will benefit from at least some of them. Let us know in the comments below which solution worked best for you and whether you have discovered a way to deal with the same WiFi disconnection problem yourself
We tend to get nervous and even infuriated when our computer suddenly turns off. It is even worse when it happens often and for no apparent reason. In this article, we will try to address the most common reasons for that as well as the best solutions to address the problem. It appears that there could be numerous reasons leading to the “computer randomly shuts off” phenomenon. Introduce yourself to the reasons and solutions listed below to address your specific issue and avoid future problems. Overheating Your PC may suddenly turn off if it overheats. The most common reasons for heat-related problems are careless overclocking, various types of debris like dirt, dust, and hair clogging different computer components, issues with the fan, etc. Heat has always been a problem for computers. As a general rule of thumb, you should always try to keep your PC cool. If you don’t pay too much attention to overheating, you may jeopardize the health of certain components. This could lead to your motherboard shutting the system down to prevent damage to your machine. In order to prevent your machine from building up too much heat, follow these rules: ACTION STEPS Ensure your PC properly circulates air Avoid humid environments and keep your machine dry Keep your machine away from high-temperature locations If you have a laptop, use a cooling pad. Keep your PC away from walls, they prevent proper air circulation too. Avoid exposing your machine to direct sunlight. Change the thermal paste of your processor if you haven’t done so for a long time. Overheating often happens when your case, processor or card fans malfunction. If you hear a strange sound coming from one of your fans, you should definitely examine it. It may be broken, dirty or dusty. If you notice dust or other debris clogging it, clean the fan. Dust, hair and other particles may overheat your computer by preventing proper air circulation. Keep your machine clean to prevent overheating and consecutive shutdowns. Food debris also provides a suitable environment for germs. Avoid eating when using a computer. Overheating can also result from overclocking. Overclocked computers have greater power demands, which could also lead to shutdowns and lead to damage to certain components. If possible, you should always strive to prevent overclocking and only allow your system to run as fast as it is meant to. Problems with hardware Hardware-related problems can also lead to random shutdowns. There are a number of ways you can examine for problems with certain devices. Try the Device Manager This Windows utility also helps in identifying device issues. To do that, just press Winkey + X and then click on “Device Manager”. The newly opened Device Manager window will list all the devices you have on your system. You can expand the categories to see if there is a problem with certain devices you want to check. If there is not, Windows will display it too: Use the Check Disk Utility This utility allows you to perform a quick check on your hard disk’s health. Follow the steps outlined below to do that: ACTION STEPS Start the Windows File Explorer with Winkey + E. Right-click on a disk, choose Properties and navigate to the Tools tab. Click on Check under “Error checking”. Windows will perform a quick check and notify you if there is any problem with the disk. If neither of these tools was of help to you, try removing any recently installed hardware. If there is an incompatibility issue between your new and existing devices, this could help you identify the problem. If you are not a hardware expert, you can ask someone else to do it for you or contact a service center for support. Faulty drivers If you have old or simply bad drivers, this can also lead to Windows 10 shutting down unexpectedly. Use Windows Update Installing the latest Windows update may also install the driver updates you require. To do so, just press Winkey + X, click on Settings and then navigate to Update & Security => Check for updates. If there is a new update for your OS, Windows will try to install it. Use Driver Verifier This tool is helpful for listing problematic or unsigned drivers. You can start it by left-clicking the Windows logo button in the taskbar and typing “verifier” then clicking on it. Alternatively, you can start Command Prompt and type “verifier”, followed by Enter to confirm. Run Device Manager Just run the Device Manager as explained before, search for a device with an old or faulty driver, right click on it and choose “Update Driver”. Manually fix certain drivers Instead of updating a driver, you can choose to uninstall it by opting for “Uninstall device” instead of “Update Driver”. You can then search for the latest driver version for your device and OS version directly on the manufacturer’s website. Prior to uninstalling the device driver, you can look for information on the device name and manufacturer by right-clicking on a certain device in the Device Manager window and choosing “Properties”. Use software You have the option to use special software to try to update all your device drivers automatically. One such tool is Driver Booster. Of course, there are other tools too and this is not necessarily the best one. Malware Strange shutdowns may result from malware infections. Scanning your system with certain tools regularly is a good way to deal with the problem. Windows Defender The built-in Microsoft Windows Defender is a good tool for helping you deal with malware. To start the program, follow these steps: Left-click on the Windows logo in the taskbar and type “Windows Defender”. Click on “Windows Defender Security Center”. Ensure that Windows Defender is on. Click on “Virus & thread protection” and then on “Scan now”. The tool will perform a quick scan and let you know if there is any virus or malware threat found. Additional malware removal tool If you need some extra protection, you can install and use specialized tools for anti-malware protection. One such tool, and at that one of my personal favorites, is Malwarebytes. It comes in free and premium versions. I’m satisfied with the free offer but if you want the best possible protection – consider the premium version. Battery issues If you are a laptop user, you may run into a battery problem. If your battery is old or unstable, the PC may shut down without your consent. Decide whether it is time to replace it with a new one, ensuring that your new battery meets your PC’s requirements. UPS problem Sometimes, your UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) device could be the root of the problem. Unplug your PC from it for a day and connect the computer directly to the power outlet. If the problem disappears, consider fixing or replacing the UPS device. Insufficient voltage of the charger If you use a charger for your machine, consider acquiring one with higher voltage capacity. When you have a charging device of less than 100 watts, this could be the reason why your computer shuts down often. If you use power-demanding programs and other applications, consider acquiring a charger with voltage capacity of between 100 and 250 watts. Windows Sleep Mode problems Sleep mode in Windows may also cause problems like random shutdowns. You can try to eliminate this possible issue by disabling the option. Do the following to cancel Sleep Mode: ACTION STEPS Press Winkey + X and click on Options. Navigate to Power & Sleep and from the right pane choose Sleep => Never. Windows Fast Startup Although it helps your OS to start faster, it may also lead to occasional shutdowns. To turn it off and check whether this will prevent your PC from shutting down without an apparent reason, do the following: ACTION STEPS Press the Winkey and type “power options”. Click on “Power & sleep settings” and then on “Additional power settings” on the right. In the newly opened power options window, click on “Choose what the power buttons do”. Click on “Change settings that are currently unavailable”. In the “Shutdown settings” section, unclick “Turn on fast startup (recommended)” Save the changes and reboot the PC. Outdated BIOS Random shutdowns may result from old BIOS versions too. If you are not certain how to do it, you can consult the guide supplied by your motherboard’s manufacturer. The usual steps one should take to update BIOS are: ACTION STEPS Visit the website of the motherboard’s vendor and download the latest BIOS version. Copy the compressed BIOS file on a flash drive. Ensure that it is placed in the root of the drive. Boot your computer, press Del to enter BIOS and select M-Flash. Select the file to update BIOS from your flash drive. Wait until the system updates and restarts the PC. Problems with Windows and other applications Random shutdowns may also result from certain applications and Windows itself. You may want to check for faulty applications, junk files, missing and corrupted system files and issues with Windows registry entries. Try the Store Apps Troubleshooter in Windows If certain Windows 10 apps are causing problems, including occasional shutdowns, the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter can help you sort them. Follow these steps to run it: ACTION STEPS Press together WinKey + X and click on Settings. Navigate to Update & Security => Troubleshoot => Windows Store App Click on Run the troubleshooter and follow the instructions. You will need to enable User Account Control to proceed if you have not already. A more detailed explanation on the troubleshooter is available at the Microsoft support site. Run System File Checker This utility attempts to find and repair corrupted or missing system files. The steps to use it are as follows: ACTION STEPS Press together Winkey + X and click on Command Prompt (Admin). Enter “sfc /scannow” and confirm with Enter. The tool will start a file verification process, scanning the system. Wait for it to finish and restart your PC. Use Windows Shutdown Assistant This dedicated tool can help prevent unexpected Windows shutdowns. It uses automated tasks to let you decide when should Windows shut down – at a certain time, when the system is idle, when the battery is low or when the CPU overheats. Apart from preventing random shutdowns, this utility will also help you organize and optimize certain tasks and comes with a trial version. OS issues At a certain point, if all your attempts at fixing the issue are unsuccessful, there may be a problem with your operating system. For example, an issue with your latest Windows 10 update. There are at least a few ways to troubleshoot this: Reset the OS Apply the default factory settings to reset your PC. Just press the Windows start button and type “reset”. Then click on “Reset this PC”, followed by “Get started”. Choose to keep your files or remove everything before you start. It is best to proceed with the first option. If you have had a previous OS version installed, you will be able to downgrade to it, should you choose to do so. Restore your OS with System Restore This is one of the logical steps to take if you suspect that something is wrong with your latest Windows update. If that’s the case, you can restore Windows from a certain System Restore point. Do the following: ACTION STEPS Click the start button in the taskbar and type “Recovery”. Click on “Recovery” and then on “Open System Restore”. Choose a restore point prior to the last Windows update and follow the wizard to complete the procedure. Reinstall Windows If nothing else helps, why not try and reinstall your OS? By doing so, you will be able to start from a “clean plate”. Of course, this will erase your personal data, so better back up all the important information you have on an external drive. We hope that you find these solutions helpful for resolving your issue. If you have other suggestions for solving this particular problem, feel free to mention them in the comments section below.
A lot of people have been looking for answers to the common Discord microphone problem. This issue crops up when the user can hear those on the other side, but the user cannot be heard. So far, this problem has only been reported with the desktop version of Discord. Prior to troubleshooting your mic with Discord, ensure that your headset functions properly. You may want to test your Discord app with a different headset. If you experience the same problem with more than one headset, go through the fixes we suggest below. Restarting the Discord App This is probably the simplest and quickest fix of all. The first time I had issues with my friends being unable to hear me over Discord, I simply restarted the app and it did the trick. However, this fix is only a temporary solution, and if you don’t want to do it over and over again, go through some of the solutions listed below. The fastest way to close the program, at least for me, is to use Alt + F4. After that, you can simply start it again through its icon. If you don’t want to close the program, simply logging in and out may work for you. Just click the User settings icon and then click on Log Out to log out. Run the App with Administrative Rights If you don’t run the application with administrative privileges, Discord may not be able to transmit data to your friends as the app uses UDP. In fact, this is yet another simple solution and one that is also recommended by the customer support at Discord. Running Discord as an administrator is as easy as right-clicking on its icon and choosing “Run as administrator” as shown on the screenshot: Changing the Automatic Input Sensitivity If Automatic Input Sensitivity is not enabled in the app settings, this could be another issue preventing the proper functioning of your microphone. Many people turn off this option accidentally when they want to tweak their voice settings. This can prevent your Discord app from receiving sound inputs from your microphone. To troubleshoot this, go through the steps shown below: Click on the User Settings icon located on the lower left corner of the app and then on Voice and Video. You will see the following Input Sensitivity setting: Make sure the setting is active, talk into your mic and determine whether the bar below lights up in green when you speak. Disable the setting and move the bar somewhere to the middle. Talk into your headset, and if you see the bar reacting, you should be able to communicate without any problem. Try the Input Device setting to change the active microphone Determine whether Discord is using the right microphone. Sometimes, the default input device Discord has set may not be the one you want. Desktop devices with built-in microphones often have this issue. If you don’t change the Input Device setting yourself, Discord will often use the internal device and disregard the fact that you already have a different headset connected. In many cases, built-in microphones don’t have the necessary drivers to properly work with Discord’s VoIP service. To check whether the app is using the mike you want it to, go through these steps: Click on the User Settings icon located at the lower left corner of the app and then on Voice and Video. Click on the dropdown menu under Input Device and set what you want to use instead of the Default. Next, ensure that the volume slider under Input Device is at its maximum. Disable Windows exclusive mode Windows allows some applications to have exclusive control over the audio driver of a device. This could cause a problem with Discord, causing the mic you use with the app to quiet down if you don’t enable some Exclusive Mode settings. The steps to solve this problem are given below. Right-click on the sound icon located at the right side of the Windows taskbar and choose Sounds. Click on the Recordings tab to list the devices. Choose your Headset Microphone. Right click it and go to the Advanced tab. Remove the tick against “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device” Reboot your PC and check whether this has fixed your mic-related issue with Discord. Switch to Push to Talk Input Mode In case none of the aforementioned methods work for you, change Voice Activity to Push to talk Input mode. You might already know where this option is located – it’s under User Settings => Voice & Video => Input Mode as could be seen on the screenshot below: Reinstall the app Sometimes this can help too. Uninstall the program and run the installation again. Contact Customer Support If these methods fail and you think you need more help, just get in touch with the official support. Discord’s development team are aware of the microphone issue and are currently looking for a permanent solution. Until then, you can also contact them for helpful input on the problem. Update your Computer’s Audio Driver There are at least two ways you can do this – manual and automatic. The manual update involves visiting the website of your audio device’s manufacturer. There, you can search for the available versions of the driver for your device and operating system. It is always best to try the latest driver version first for your Windows version. The automatic update involves the following steps: Click the Windows startup button at the left side of your taskbar and type “Device Manager”. Click the link to open the Device Manager window and expand “Sound, video and game controllers”. Right-click on your audio device and choose “Update driver”. Windows will try to find and install a more recent version of the driver. Note that my device is ASUS Xonar but yours will probably be different. Reboot and see if this fixes your problem. Alternatively, you can try to uninstall the device first instead of opting for the update and then reinstalling it. Reinstalling is as simple as clicking on the Action tab of the Device Manager and choosing the option “Scan for hardware changes”. Windows will try to discover your audio device and then install the required driver. Examine your microphone If your mic has technical issues, that can lead to this particular error as well. For example, if you are using an external microphone, there might be a cable issue. To examine whether your headphone mic functions properly, connect it to your PC and open the Windows Voice Recorder App. Just left-click the Windows start button and type Voice Recorder. Start the app, record a few seconds of something you say and play it back. If you can hear yourself clearly without any noise in the background, the headphone mic is in order. However, if there is background noise, you may want to consider using another microphone. Reset Discord’s voice settings The voice chat settings in Discord are many. If you have made a lot of changes recently and can’t even recall what the last one was, it is often a good idea to reset to the default voice settings. These can be found under Voice & Video. Just scroll to the bottom of the section and click on “Reset Voice Settings” as shown in the screenshot: Test your Upload Speed The Discord app requires a good Internet connection. To transmit voice, you need sufficient upload speed. There are various tools on the Internet to test your upload speed and should you wish to run a fast test, you can try this tool. These are some of the most helpful methods for fixing your Discord app microphone problems. I too have experienced some of these issues while playing World of Worships on my computer, and my friends were unable to hear me at times. I figured out that this particular problem was related to the Discord app and found a way to resolve it. However, I’ve also wanted to account for all the other problems leading to the same Discord microphone issue. I hope this guide helps you too.
A Windows 10 computer freezing is not an uncommon occurrence. It could be that certain Windows elements like the taskbar or certain menus do not respond or, in some situations, the entire operating system becomes non-responsive. In this article, we address the ten most viable solutions for fixing the problem. Try them out and see which works best for you. Rollback Windows to a Previous Version If you have recently installed a Windows update that you think might be causing the problem, one of the most logical fixes you can try is to roll Windows back to a previous version. Follow the steps below if you want to do this: Click on the Windows logo in the left section of the taskbar and then on the little settings icon or type “Settings” and click on the link. Once the Settings window opens, click on “Update & Security”. From the left sidebar (section), click on “Recovery”. Look for “Go back to the previous version of Windows 10” and then click on “Get started”. Note, that you can only initiate this rollback if you have only recently updated Windows (no more than 10 days ago). Follow the instructions and restart Windows. Update Device Drivers Whenever Windows freezes, this could indicate a driver problem. Although certain OS drivers are updated automatically through regular Windows updates, it does not hurt to check whether a certain device is using the most up-to-date driver. Follow the steps outlined below to check for driver updates: Click on the Windows logo in the left section of the taskbar and type “device manager”. This will open the Device Manager window, listing all the available devices on your PC. Expand each group of devices, right click on a certain device you think may require an update and choose “Update driver”. It is a good idea to try this first with your Display adapters. Choose “Search automatically for updated driver software”. In case Windows finds a more recent version of a driver, install it, reboot the system and see if this resolves your problem. If Windows fails to find a new driver for your device, you can always check for it on the manufacturer’s website. Perform a memory check Windows sometimes freezes whenever it has a damaged or corrupted memory card. If that is the case, you can replace it. To diagnose the issue, performing a memory check, follow the steps below: Press the Winkey + R and type in “mdsched.exe”. Press OK and the Windows Memory Diagnostic window will open: Choose the first option and wait for Windows to restart. The OS will display the progress of the memory check on a blue screen. When the test completes, you will know whether there is an issue with your memory card and whether you will need to replace it. Check the system for corrupted files In order to examine your system for missing or corrupted files, you should run a system file check. Windows comes with a System File Checker. The built-in tool allows Windows users to recover the original file system in case of missing or corrupted system files. Follow the steps outlined below to perform the system file check: Right-click on the Windows start button and then on Command Prompt (Admin). Type “sfc /scannow” in the newly opened window and execute the command with Enter. Wait until the file verification procedure completes. It will take some time but you can observe the progress. Keep the window open until you see the result of the scan. Disable CPU states in bios Computers use minimal power when the user is not actively using the system by reducing the system’s voltage and multipliers. Disabling CPU states also means turning off the computer’s power-saving options. This, on the other hand, results in a more stable Windows performance, reducing the number of instances in which your system might freeze. Disabling the CPU states is accomplished with the following steps: Click the Windows logo button on the taskbar and go to “settings”. Click on “Settings” and a new window will open. Find “Updates & Security, click on “Recovery” and find the “Advanced startup” section on the right. Click “Restart now” under the option. The PC will restart and you will be presented with several options. Choose “Troubleshoot” => “Advanced options” => “UEFI Firmware Settings”. When BIOS starts, go for “Advanced” => “CPU Configuration”. Ensure that both “C1E Function” and “Intel(R) C-STATE tech” are with status “Disabled”. Use the up and down arrows to change the status of the options in case you need to. After saving these changes, restart the PC. Disable Link State Power Management This power-saving mechanism has two options – Moderate Power Savings and Maximum Power Savings. The former recovers faster but saves less power while the latter saves more power but the recovery time is increased. Some Windows 10 users claim that turning off Link State Power Management has helped them with freezing issues and blank screens, especially in cases related to AMD and NVIDIA graphic cards. Go through the following steps to turn it off: Press Winkey +R and type in “powercfg.cpl”. Click on the search result and the Power Options window will open. Click on “Change power settings”. In the newly opened “Edit Plan Settings” window, click on “Change advanced power settings”. The “Power Options” window opens. Click on PCI Express => Link State Power Management and set the setting from its current value to “Off” as seen on the screenshot below: Disable Fast Startup Go through the steps below: Right-click the Windows start button in the taskbar and then on Power Options. Under “Power & sleep”, click on “Additional power settings” on the right. In the newly opened “Power Options” window, click on “Choose what the power buttons do” in the left pane. Click on “Change settings that are currently unavailable” and then uncheck “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”. Click on “Save changes”. Read below to learn about how to choose the best RAM cards for your computer: Different Types of RAM for Gaming There are many different types of RAM available for digital devices. Here is a list: Static RAM (SRAM) Dynamic RAM (DRAM) Synchronous Dynamic RAM (SDRAM) Single Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM (SDR SDRAM) Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM (DDR SDRAM) Graphics Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM (GDDR SDRAM) Flash Memory Out of these, you would find SDRAM, and DDR SDRAM available in computers and video gaming consoles. The difference between the types of RAM are highly technical and surpass the purpose of this article. The type of RAM you should be concerned about is this: DDR. In just about any gaming computer, you would get a DDR type RAM with a number. The RAM would be available as DDR3 or DDR4, which is the latest available for gaming computers. DDR stands for double data rate. DDR RAM is available in generations, running from the unnumbered first to the latest fourth. A newer generation indicates that the RAM is faster and more energy efficient. When you purchase a RAM card, ensure that it belongs to the latest DDR generation. Right now, we are still at the fourth. The Main Features of RAM for Gaming These are the main features about RAM cards gamers should be concerned about: Capacity It refers to how big a storage a RAM card has. RAM capacity per card is available from 2GB to 32GB. For gaming computers, the bigger the RAM capacity, the better it is. The recommended minimal RAM capacity for a 64-bit gaming computer is 8GB. Ideally, you should have at least 16GB. 4GB is adequate for computing needs like web browsing, but not for gaming. Configurations can go high as 32GB or even 128GB in special rigs. However, the bigger the RAM card is, the more expensive it would be. Clock Speed Clock speeds refer to the CPU clocking that the RAM card supports. Some gamers are obsessed with clocking, and other, not so much. Clocking is an in-built feature that depends on the type and generation of the RAM card. For example: The recommended DDR4 RAM card for gaming supports CPU clock speeds ranging from 2,133 MHz to over 4,000 MHz. The range is limited with older generations. Gamers don’t really need to worry too much about clock speeds on modern computers. It’s a fixed spec and you should be more concerned with the capacity. Latency You would notice a latency spec even with modern RAM cards. However, this spec ceased to be relevant a long time ago. Latency indicates how long it takes the RAM card to receive a command from the CPU. The latency is higher as the capacity becomes greater. You would definitely want a RAM card with lower latency. But: The latency difference between the high and low performing RAM cards are largely negligible. The differences are in nanoseconds and don’t matter very much. So you don’t need to be too concerned with this spec. However, it’s useful to know what it is. Things to Look for When Buying RAM for Gaming Buying a RAM card is not as difficult as you might think. Just keep the following in mind: The most important spec to concern yourself with is the capacity. The other features that mattered in the past have become negligible concerns as modern RAM technology has evolved. For gaming, the higher the RAM, the better. Don’t settle for less in this regard. It’s recommended to get the RAM capacity you need with dual or more cards. There’s no particular advantage with a single RAM except that it’s easier to replace. With dual cards, the computer can continue to run even if one RAM card gets shot. Buy DDR4 RAM cards as this is the latest generation currently available. Try to buy a RAM card with a warranty, if available. Make sure you purchase a RAM card that fits your motherboard. Conclusion The best RAM card for a gaming computer should have the highest capacity you can afford. If you are an overclocking enthusiast, you may want to focus on that as well. The modern DDR4 RAM cards suggested above offer the best speeds and performance that modern RAM tech allows. With 16GB DDR4 cards, you will be able to play the latest games at the highest settings. If you want more affordability, go for DDR3 RAM cards. The performance may suffer slightly, but not too much. Get the best for your money with brands that offer lifetime guarantees and similar perks. Keep in mind: The RAM capacity is just as important to a gaming rig as the graphics unit or the processor. Without adequate RAM capacity, even the latest GPU or CPU won’t run games smoothly. You should, therefore, invest in the right capacity of RAM for your computer. It might be expensive, but it’s totally worth it.

Although we have been using printers for several decades now, we still experience different problems when trying to print documents. In this article, we will try to address one such common issue. This is when our computer informs us that another PC is using the printer, which is why it is unable to print a document. Sometimes, the error appears when more than one computer is attempting to print documents. However, if the printer is connected to a single computer, it means there is most probably a technical issue you need to resolve. The following are some methods we recommend you try in order to fix the issue: Set the printer as the default one This works for some printers (Canon printers included). They usually have more than one printer listed. One is listed as a “WS” printer and often causes the issue we are trying to solve. In such a case, try to set the normal printer and not the “WS” printer as the default one. Simply removing the latter may also solve the issue. Power cycling Going through a full power cycle is a process which works for many people and involves turning off certain devices completely and turning them on again. This applies not only to your printer but also to your PC and Wi-Fi device. By power cycling a device, you force it to reinitialize a number of configuration parameters on one hand and on the other, to recover from an unresponsive state. Through power cycling, you also reset all its network configurations. Remember that restarting your devices instantly may not be sufficient. It is always a good idea to disconnect the power cables for several minutes too. After two or three minutes, you can plug the cables back in and switch on the devices. Print Spooler Service Reset The software program called Spooler Service manages all the print jobs a computer sends to a printer. This service allows a user not only to cancel certain currently processed jobs but also to control other jobs currently on the queue. The steps to take in order to reset the service are as follows: Press together Win key + R and type “services.msc” in the Open field. Confirm with OK and the Services window will open. Locate the service called “Print Spooler” in the Name field of the window. Pressing “P” on the keyboard will make it easier for you to navigate and find it. Double click on it and the Print Spooler Properties window will open. Click the Stop button and confirm by pressing OK. Start the Windows file explorer by pressing Win key + E and from the left Quick access pane, click on This PC. Navigate to the path “C:\Windows\System32\spool\P If prompted for access, just click Continue. Once you navigate to the “PRINTERS” folder, delete all the files inside. Reboot your PC and check whether you still have a problem. Make a batch file If the solution above fixes the problem but the issue still keeps reappearing, you can make a batch file to automate all the above tasks by simply clicking on the file. This is a time-saving solution, allowing you to perform all of the previous steps if the error returns. Open the file explorer in Windows by pressing Windows + E or just clicking on its icon. Go to View=>Options and click on Change folder and search options. Uncheck the option “Hide extensions for known file types” as shown on the screenshot below: Create a new txt file on your desktop with the following commands as file content: net stop spooler net start spooler exit Save the file with the name PrintSpoolerServiceReset or choose another name that suits you more. What is great about this file is that every time you double-click it, the print spooler service will automatically perform the reset for you. Update to the most recent drivers for your printer If you are unsuccessful at resolving the problem with the aforementioned methods, perhaps your issue is driver-related. Outdated device drivers are known to cause compatibility issues and cause issues in your printer. Your best bet in such a scenario is to visit the website of your printer’s manufacturer and download the most recent driver for your particular device and operating system. Ensure that both the printer model and the operating system match yours. In case you already have the latest driver installed but it doesn’t work properly, you can always try an older version. The steps to update your Windows printer driver are described below: Press Win key + R and type “devmgmt.msc” in the Open field. Confirm your choice with OK and the device manager of your PC with the display on the screen. Navigate to the “Print queues” and expand it. Find your printer from the dropdown menu, right-click on it and choose to “Update driver”. When the OS asks you whether you wish to update the driver, select to browse your computer for driver software if you have already downloaded it from the manufacturer’s website or have a disk with it. Choose the driver file from the browser button and run it to initiate the update. Reboot the PC and check whether this has solved the issue. If this doesn’t work for you, try uninstalling the driver before you update it. Alter the WSD’s timeout settings WSD stands for Web Services for Devices and is meant to serve as a control mechanism for finding, controlling and setting up devices. The WSD’s timeout settings detect issues and will try to fix them. The WSD Timeout Settings can be changed in two ways. You can either visit the webpage through your printer’s IP. Instead of the default, you should alter the setting to ten minutes. Ensure that you cancel all running printer jobs before making this change. Most devices come with the same configuration. The settings can be accessed in the order listed below. The navigation may be somewhat different for different printer models. Menu=> Set up => Device Setting => LAN Settings => Other Settings => WSD Settings => Timeout Setting => 10 Minutes Do not forget to do a power cycling after you change the WSD timeout settings. Scan your system Another way to solve this problem would be to scan your machine for malware. The steps to do this are as follows: Press the start menu button in the lower left side of the Windows taskbar and type “Windows Defender”. Click on “Windows Defender Security Center”. Ensure the Virus & thread protection is running, click on it and initiate a scan. These are our recommended fixes for the problem “Another computer is using the printer”. Let us know in the comments if any of these ideas have solved your problem or whether you have discovered another solution to the issue.
